Citation Generators - A Warning!

How to Cite Music & Podcasts in MLA

Works Cited
  • To cite a song, you will need the performer and the name of the song, which is "in quotes".
  • Include the name of the album the song was released on, which is italicized.
  • Include the name of the Music Label and the year the album was released.
  • If you are citing lyrics you will also need the link to the website where you found the lyrics.
    • At the end of the citation, after the link, you'll also include Transcript of lyrics. 
  • Note where periods and commas separate pieces of information.

Song:

Artist Name. "Title of Song." Name of Album, Name of Music Label, year. 

Beyoncé. "Pretty Hurts." Beyoncé, Parkwood Entertainment, 2013.

Song Lyrics:

Artist Name. "Title of Song." Name of Album, Name of Music Label, year. Link to site where you found lyrics. Transcript of lyrics.

Beyoncé. "Pretty Hurts." Beyoncé, Parkwood Entertainment, 2013. https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/beyonceknowles/prettyhurts.html. Transcript of lyrics.

Album: 

Artist. Album Name. Music Label, year album was released.

Beatles. The Beatles. EMI Records, 1968.

In-Text Citation

Use the name of the artist.

Works Cited

Podcast episodes are cited similar to a TV episode.

  • You will need the title of the episode you are citing, "in quotes."
  • Include the name of the Podcast, italicized.
  • Include the name of the podcast host. 
  • The date the podcast released.
  • The episode and season, if available.
  • Where you accessed the podcast.
    • If you listened from a website, you'll need the link.
    • If you listed on an app, you'll include the name of the app, Italicized, followed by the word app.
  • Note where periods and commas separate pieces of information.

"Title of Episode." Name of Podcast, season x, episode x, Name of Host, date episode released. Accessed from site link or App name.
